Open my eyes that I may see.
Open my eyes that I may see,
Glimpses of truth Thou hast for me;
Help me to set the higher self free,
So shall I serve and worship Thee.
Silently now I wait for Thee,
Ready my God, Thy will to see,
Open my eyes, illumine me;
Spirit Divine.
Open my ears that I may hear,
Voices of truth, serene and clear,
And while the wave-notes fall on my ear,
Discord and strife will disappear.
Silently now I wait for Thee,
Ready my God, Thy will to see,
Open my eyes, illumine me;
Spirit Divine.
Open my mouth, and let me bear
Witness unceasing to Thy care;
Open my heart, and teach me to share
Love, with Thy children everywhere.
Silently now I wait for Thee,
Ready my God, Thy will to see,
Open my eyes, illumine me;
Spirit Divine.
Words and music by Clara H Scott (b1841 Illinois - d1897 Iowa)
This is the version we have sung for a number of years which is slightly different to the two other versions I have found on the web.
